SALISBURY — The Fire Protection Technology and Emergency Management Associate of Applied Science degree programs at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College have earned accreditation from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). This recognition demonstrates the college’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and training to the next generation of fire and emergency service professionals.

“Achieving IFSAC accreditation is a significant milestone for Rowan-Cabarrus and reflects our commitment to offering innovative, high-quality programs that meet the needs of our students and the workforce,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. “This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our faculty and staff in preparing students for impactful careers that serve our communities.”

IFSAC is a globally recognized, peer-driven organization that accredits fire, emergency services, public safety and related degree programs at colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. Achieving accreditation signifies that RCCC programs meet rigorous standards, with course offerings, institutional support and qualified faculty working together to fulfill their educational mission.

The accreditation process included an extensive self-study, which began in May 2022 and was completed in February 2023, followed by an on-site review by a team of IFSAC representatives in June 2023. During the site visit, the team conducted interviews with college leaders, staff, faculty and students to evaluate program quality. Their findings noted the programs’ high standards and the dedication of the staff and faculty. The site team identified no requirements or recommendations for improvement, highlighting the exceptional quality of these programs.

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College officially received IFSAC accreditation on Oct. 5, 2024 during the IFSAC Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With this accomplishment, RCCC became the 29th college in the United States and the fifth in North Carolina to earn IFSAC accreditation. RCCC is the first college in North Carolina to achieve IFSAC accreditation for multiple programs, a distinction that emphasizes the College’s leadership in fire and emergency services education.

“This achievement shows how Rowan-Cabarrus is providing students with opportunities to learn and succeed at the highest levels,” said Elbert Lassiter, vice president of corporate and continuing education. “Our programs are designed to not only meet industry standards but to exceed them, ensuring our graduates are fully prepared to make a meaningful impact in their fields.”

IFSAC accreditation validates the college’s efforts to provide students with an exceptional learning experience, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of fire protection and emergency management careers. Rowan-Cabarrus remains dedicated to fostering success for its students and meeting the needs of its community through innovative and forward-thinking educational programs.
