College men’s basketball: Williams helps Claflin win at LC

SALISBURY — Jailen Williams (Carson) scored 11 points as Claflin took a 76-67 CIAA win against Livingstone on Thursday night at New Trent Gym.

Williams is averaging 10.3 points, 2.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds and has started every game for Claflin (10-7, 4-3). He had four rebounds on Thursday.

Claflin won with defense and with balance, with five players scoring in double figures. Claflin shot 47 percent and made 10 3-pointers. John Whitehead made four 3s.

Claflin led by as many as 15 points in the first half, although Livingstone was able to stay in the game.

Jamal Cannady Jr. scored 26 for the Blue Bears (8-9, 1-6), including 13-for-13 from the foul line, while Janes Nipper scored 12. King Iejeoma had 15 rebounds.
