High school wrestling: Raiders clinch 2nd in SPC

LANDIS — South Rowan wrestlers wrapped up second place in the South Piedmont Conference on Wednesday with two victories in a home tri-match.
The Raiders, coached by Tre Jackson, beat Concord 52-30 and Central Cabarrus 54-30.
A long season that began with the first official practice on Oct, 30 has been successful for the Raiders.
South has qualified for the dual team state playoffs for the 11th time in program history and for the first time since 2017. All-time, South has won nine dual-team playoff matches.
A highlight on Wednesday was the 100th career win by Mateo Diaz.
South had nine pins against Central Cabarrus — with Emilio Diaz (106), Mateo Diaz (120), Garrison Raper (132), Chayd Freeze (138), Koleman Thompson (157), Aiden Carter (175), Owen Smith (190), Deon Wilson (215) and Evan Cox (285) putting Vikings on their backs.
South had six pins against Concord — by Emilio Diaz, Raper, Chayd Freeze, Nicholas Woolf (150), Thompson and Carter. Traydun Freeze (113) won by forfeit. Peyton Hinson (120) and Mateo Diaz (126) won by tech fall.
