College women’s basketball: Livingstone wins at home

SALISBURY — Livingstone’s women’s basketball team ran away from Shaw with a big fourth quarter and took a 74-51 victory on Saturday in a CIAA Southern Division matchup at New Trent Gym.
Livingstone (5-13, 3-5) had some of its best balance of the season, with Morgan Kelson and Savannah Briggs scoring 14 each; Thalia Carter getting 13, and Bria Griffith adding 11. Jay’la Williams made three 3-pointers.
Shaw (5-11, 2-5) shot 28.4 percent, so there were plenty of rebounds to get. Kelson grabbed 14, while Griffith had 12. Griffith also had five assists.
Livingstone only shot 33.3 percent, but eight makes were 3-pointers. The Blue Bears also had an 18-13 edge in the turnover battle.
Livingtone led 36-28 at halftime. the lead was 52-46 going to the final 10 minutes, but the Blue Bears smashed the visitors 22-5 in the final quarter.
