Local Alpha Kappa Alpha chapter celebrates officer installation

SALISBURY — The Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., recently ushered in a new era of leadership with an installation ceremony. The significant event not only marked the transition of officers but also reaffirmed the chapter’s dedication to impactful community engagement.
The chapter introduced its elected officers: President Alisa Russell; Vice-President Carmen Burton; Recording Secretary Tanya Dixon-Neely; Corresponding Secretary Cassondra Heilig; Assistant Secretary Leanese Alexander; Treasurer Detra Tate; Financial Secretary Cierra Irving-Young; Assistant Financial Secretary Taylor Godfrey; Chapter Hostess Toi Degree; Parliamentarian Marilyn Alexander; Chaplain and Public Relations Officer Dr. Lisa Davis; Graduate Advisor Marva McCain; Sergeant-At Arms Sakia Jackson-Sellars; and Historian Brenda Alston. The installation during the December chapter meeting set the stage for a dynamic year ahead.
The ceremony, held last month, symbolized a renewal of the chapter’s commitment to its core values of service and excellence. That tradition serves as a reminder of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s heritage and the ongoing mission to uplift the community.
On Dec. 6, 2024, Delta Xi Omega held its first Pink Ice Ball to raise money for community scholarships. Delta Xi Omega has long been a pillar of service in Salisbury, exemplified by the continued participation in Martin Luther King Day of Service. Delta Xi Omega also celebrated its Founders’ Day on Jan. 11.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was founded on Jan. 15, 1908. This year the sorority will celebrate 117 years.
Among the year’s highlights is the Fashionetta Pageant, a signature event that showcases the creativity and elegance of the sorority while raising funds for scholarships and community initiatives. That event reinforces the chapter’s mission of educational excellence and civic responsibility.
As Delta Xi Omega chapter looks to the future, the newly installed officers are ready to lead with integrity, compassion, and a clear sense of purpose. The vision aligns with the sorority’s legacy of service and community betterment, promising a year filled with impactful and meaningful engagement. Delta Xi Omega stands poised to continue its mission of fostering positive change, reflecting the spirit of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood,” in every endeavor.
