High school wrestling: Falcons win SPC tourney

MOUNT ULLA — Four West Rowan wrestlers won conference titles in their weight classes on Friday, as the Falcons took the South Piedmont Conference Tournament at home.
West, also the SPC regular-season champ, placed in the top four in all 14 weight classes to total 239 points.
The Rowan schools finished 1-2-3-4 in the team scores. South was second with 154.5 points. East Rowan (132) took third, edging Carson (128).
Rounding out the team scores were Robinson (82), Concord (77), Central Cabarrus (76) and Northwest Cabarrus (38).
West indvidual champs were Mason Truman (106 pounds), Stetson Collins (138), Kevin O’Brien (144) and Andrew Taylor (150).
Truman won a major decision against East’s Cole Goucher in the final.
Collins won by technical fall against South’s Chayd Freeze in the final.
O’Brien, still undefeated and the SPC Wrestler of the Year, won his final by technical fall against East’s Jayden Greene.
Taylor won by tech fall in the final against Central’s Chad Helms.
South’s Tre Jackson was named SPC Coach of the Year. South had three champs — Mateo Diaz (120), Garrison Raper (126) and Aiden Carter (175).
Diaz won by pin against’s East’s Lucas Restrepo in the final.
Raper won by tech fall against Central’s Connor Wilkerson in the final.
Carter pinned West’s Holland Wellman in the final.
Carson champs were Joseph Little (113) and Griffin Barber (165).
Little won by tech fall in the final against West’s Bryson Wilhelm.
Barber won by pin against West’s Hunter Ingram in the final.
Andrew Thompson (157) was a champion for East. Thompson won a major decision over West’s Max Brown in the final.
Concord’s Alex Petroff (190) and Kaleb Brooks (215) were champs.
Petroff decisioned Carson’s Andrew Reaves in the final. Brooks won a 4-3 decision against West’s Dakota Athey.
Robinson’s Alexander Garcia (132) and Aiden Black (285) won championships.
Garcia pinned West’s James Stephens in the final. Black won a 5-4 decision against Concord’s Alex Williams.
In addition to four champs and six runners-up, West got third-place points from Oliver Perry (120) and Harry Hartwell (190). Chris Gaither (126) and Bryson Ellis (285) finished fourth.
In addition to three champs and a runner-up, South got third-place points from Emilio Diaz (106), Nicholas Woolf (150) and Evan Cox (285). Peyton Hinson (132) and Koleman Thompson (157) finished fourth.
Besides one champ and three runners-up, East got thirds from Chris McDonald (113), Mason Stutler (126) and Jamal Hall (132). Forrest Weathers (138) was fourth.
In addition to two champs and a runner-up, Carson got third-place points from Cameron Lord (144), Jamarion Brown (157) and Elijah Morgan (215). Braxdon Bowlin (106) and Gabe Flaminio (120) placed fourth.
