Staff report

GAFFNEY. S.C. — Catawba’s men’s basketball team has been strong at home, but it’s proven that it can lose to almost anyone in the South Atlantic Conference on the road.

Limestone ruled the second half and rallied to beat the Indians 93-86 on Saturday in the Timken Center. There were 128 witnesses to the Saints’ 53-point second half.

Catawba (11-8, 8-7) is 4-6 on the road.

Nick Walker had a terrific game with 22 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Indians. Justin Banks roared off the bench to score 19 efficient points in 22 minutes.

But it wasn’t enough.

Catawba had an unusually proficient day from the 3-point line — 11-for-23, thanks largely to 3-for-4 from Jashaun Hawkins — but that wasn’t enough either.

Catawba’s deficiencies appeared to be mostly on the defensive end. Limestone only made seven turnovers and shot 14-for-28 from the 3-point line.

Limestone (8-10, 5-9) had three players score at least 20 points. Isayah Owens and Greg McKay got 20 apiece. Sirr Hughes played like royalty and poured in 29.

The good news is Catawba is home on Wednesday against Newberry.
