High school swimming: Hornets, Cavs compete in CCC Championships

SALISBURY — Lexington’s boys won the Central Carolina Conference Swimming Championships held at the Hurley YMCA on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets won six of 11 events and scored 246 points.

Salisbury was second with 222 points. The Hornets had two wins, three second places and five third places.

Andrew Ellsworth won the 100 backstroke in 1:19.09. Salisbury’s Vincent Westfall, Nolt Lescoe, Ellsworth and Sawyer Burton won the 400 free relay in 4:39.23.

The Hornets placed second in the 200 free relay and 200 IM relay, and Burton had a second in the 50 free.

Finishing third for the Hornets were Burton in the 100 free; Sam Goodman in the 50 free; Mac Blankenship in the 100 backstroke and 200 free, and Westfall in the 100 butterfly.

North Rowan finished fifth with 54 points. Sophomore Rylan Furr won the 100 butterfly in 1:18.01. He was second in the 100 breaststroke.

In the girls meet, East Davidson won with six first places and 287 points.

West Davidson was second with three wins and nine second places. The Green Dragons totaled 271 points. Lexington was third with 106.

Salisbury was fifth with 20 points. Meredith Williams was the only Salisbury entry. She was fourth in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 free.

North Rowan was sixth with 19 points. Daniela Marzano had a sixth in the 100 backstroke and a seventh in the 100 free.
