Four local high school graduates have been awarded 2008 Helen S. and Julius L. Goldman Scholarships.
They are Tiffany Anderson, West Rowan High School; Clarisa Beaty, Carson High School; Lauren Cress, East Rowan High School; and Mariann Dandison, Salisbury High School.
The scholarship is administered by the Salisbury Branch of the American Association of University Women. It is valued at $1,000 and is renewable annually.
It is awarded to senior female students based on academic achievement, financial need, extra-curricular activities, goals and aspirations.
Anderson was a junior marshal and member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and All County/All Conference track team at West Rowan. Daughter of Jacqueline Bostic of Salisbury, she plans to major in psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Beaty was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and varsity basketball, track and field teams at Carson. Daughter of Darryl and Felicia Beaty of Salisbury, she plans to major in accounting at N.C. State University in Raleigh.
Cress was president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Junior Civitan Club, All County/All Conference volleyball team and the varsity basketball team at East Rowan. Daughter of Kim and Teresa Cress of Salisbury, she plans to major in biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dandison was a member of the National Honor Society, concert and jazz bands, Student Government Association and varsity tennis team at Salisbury High. Daughter of Alan and Ann Dandison of Salisbury, she plans to study pharmacy at Campbell University in Buies Creek.
