The Salisbury Planning Board has approved a conditional district on property at 625 Corporate Circle that will allow Competitive Sports Properties to construct a 10,000-square-foot addition to its existing gym.
The board approved the matter in a 6-0 vote Tuesday.
Todd McNeely of Competitive Sports Properties sought the change. Corporate Circle is located off Julian Road between Jake Alexander Boulevard and I- 85.
The conditional district allows for alternative designs to what’s laid out in the Land Development Ordinance.
The district was needed to allow McNeely to put vertical metal siding on the addition. The existing gym has vertical metal siding.
The conditional district also will allow less ground-floor display windows on the street facade and gives the owner a break on parking.
The zoning normally would require 49 parking spaces, but the plan proposes 45.
According to McNeely’s petition, the building will be used as a training facility for baseball, softball, basketball, cheerleading, gymnastics and other sports, serving children through high school age.
The existing facility is almost 15,000 square feet.
