PITTSBURGH (AP) ó A disbarred Pittsburgh attorney has been sentenced to 111/2 to 23 months in jail for stealing nearly $500,000 from a community leader’s estate that was supposed to go to a North Carolina college.
Fifty-five-year-old William King Jr. also must repay more than $460,000 to Charles Foggie’s $1.7 million estate.
King pleaded guilty in April to theft by failure to make required disposition of funds.
Foggie, who died in 2000, bequeathed $500,000 to his alma mater, Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. But prosecutors say the school only got a fraction of that and King wrote himself checks.
King and his attorney say the money was used to pay for King’s drug habit and bills.
Foggie was a national African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church bishop.
