Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina opened a Career Connections Center a year ago at 1923 S. Main St., and to celebrate, the center will hold an open house Thursday from 1-4 p.m.
The center offers free services to help job seekers secure employment, including resumé and cover letter preparation assistance, interviewing skills assistance, career counseling assistance with applications and career readiness pre-testing and labs (in partnership with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College). The center has computers with high-speed Internet access and interview simulators.
“Our goal has been to provide a one-stop resource for unemployed and underemployed people in the Rowan County area,” said Kerry Motley, coordinator for the center. “It’s been so rewarding helping people who truly need these services.”
Since it opened last April, the Rowan County Career Connections Center has served nearly 4,000 job seekers and placed 237 people into jobs.
A Business Advisory Council made up of local community leaders has been instrumental in the center’s success.
The public is invited to attend the open house to see the services that are helping individuals and families in Rowan County reach financial stability. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome.
