One-stop voting is under way for the second Democratic primary for N.C. Labor Commissioner on June 24.
The statewide race pits John C. Brooks, a former labor commissioner, against Mary Fant Donnan, the top vote-getter in the four-candidate primary May 6.
A total of eight Rowan voters had cast ballots in the first four days of one-stop voting, and election officials expect a sparse turnout.
There are no local races on the ballot.
Elections Director Nancy Evans estimates turnout may be between 1 and 2 percent. That equates to around 300 to 600 voters.
Early voting started Thursday and will continue through June 21 at the Board of Elections Office at 130 W. Innes St.
The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the final day of one-stop voting, the office will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The election could end up costing the county $10 or more per vote.
The county will pay more than $15,000 for the required three staffers at each of the 44 precincts, along with other costs.
Among the other costs is the print bill for 15,000 ballots, the minimum number required by the state.
Around 31,000 registered Democrats are eligible to vote. Unaffiliated voters who did not vote in the Republican primary May 6 are also eligible.
