In recognition of his contributions to the success of countless Pfeiffer University graduates, dozens recently honored Dr. Steve C. Dial during the Fifth Annual George Pfeiffer Symposium, held April 26 in the Harris Science Annex on Pfeiffer’s Misenheimer campus.
A professor emeritus of biology and distinguished Pfeiffer alumnus, Dial came to Pfeiffer in 1963 as a faculty member, and is beloved by former students and fellow colleagues alike. Although he retired in 2003, his work and dedication to Pfeiffer continues through his rich legacy and the many alumni who have become successful as a result of his mentorship.
Dial’s son, Chris, a 1986 Pfeiffer graduate, is leading the fundraising effort to renovate and name the Harris Greenhouse to honor his father. Glass Garden Builders of Connecticut, the original builder of the university’s Lord and Burnham Greenhouse, has been retained to update and restore the structure. Renovations have begun with a completion date anticipated in early June.
Dial served as biology professor, past chair of the department and past division head at Pfeiffer and is a well-respected ecologist, biologist and scholar. He earned his undergraduate degree from Pfeiffer College and received both his master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of South Carolina. Dial and his wife, Carolyn, live in Misenheimer.
