A prototype Bottom Dollar Food store, which is a full-shop discount grocer that falls under the Food Lion banner, will open later this year in Mooresville.
It will be the first Bottom Dollar not converted from an existing Food Lion. The building, in a shopping center just off N.C. 150, has housed other grocery stores in the past.
Bottom Dollar offers national brands, private-label products, produce and meat at discount prices. It doesn’t have a deli/bakery on site but carries nearly 200 of the most popular deli/bakery products.
It is the newest banner with Food Lion, Reid’s, Bloom and Harveys that are part of Brussels-based Delhaize Group. The first Bottom Dollar debuted Sept. 21, 2005, in High Point.
Bottom Dollar manages expenses in ways like having customers bag their own groceries, deals on a “while-supplies-last” items and using alternative display and stocking techniques, such as cut cases on shelves, pallets and open bins.
Bottom Dollar has 27 stores operating now, including four in North Carolina. Others are in northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C.-area.
Market analysis determines which of the three banners ó Food Lion, Bloom or Bottom Dollar Food ó will best meet customer needs at a certain location.
