Residents and staff members at Genesis Healthcare on Julian Road danced the night away Thursday at the nursing home’s eighth annual senior prom.
About 35 residents ó ages 55 to 95 ó participated in the event, held in observance of National Nursing Home Week. Family members brought formal attire for them to wear, and female residents had their hair and nails done so they would look their best.
Dude Armstrong was named prom king and Maude Earnhardt prom queen. Beulah Smith was chosen as the best-dressed female and Charles Jennings the best-dressed male.
The prom lasted two hours, during which residents and staff enjoyed mini-cheesecakes, snack mix and Cheerwine punch.
Genesis selects a theme each year for National Nursing Home Week, and this year’s theme was “A Walk to Remember.” Other activities held during the week included a performance by an Elvis impersonator, an All-American Bandstand Dance-Off and an Old-Time Pie-Eating Contest.
