An intense thunderstorm late Sunday afternoon caused power outages to several hundred locations in Rowan County, with most of the lost power occurring in Salisbury.
Power lines went down and a transformer blew in the 200 block of North Fulton Street during the storm, which swept through about 4:30 p.m.
As of 7:34 p.m. Sunday, Duke Energy showed Rowan County with 243 outages; Stanly County, 145; and Cabarrus County, 131. Most of the outages in Cabarrus County occurred in Kannapolis.
At that time, Duke Energy reported a total of 992 power outages among its North and South Carolina customers.
By 8:04 p.m., Duke had restored power to all the Stanly County locations except one.
Of 13 counties in North Carolina with reported outages, Rowan County had the most with its 243.
Beyond Salisbury, Rowan County had isolated outages of less than 10 customers in two eastern Rowan locations and two more spots south of Salisbury near Interstate 85 and in China Grove.
Pickens and Greenville counties were hardest hit in South Carolina, according to Duke Energy’s numbers.
