One of three people injured in an Old Mocksville Road head-on collision that killed a man Friday night remains hospitalized at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Teresa Velazquez was in stable condition Saturday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Her children, 12-year-old Christian and 7-year-old Christina, were treated in the medical center emergency department after the collision and released.
The Velazquezes were traveling north at 5080 Old Mocksville Road in a 2007 Audi at about 8 p.m. Friday when they were struck head-on by a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Julio Santiago, who was pronounced dead at the scene after being cut from his vehicle.
Trooper A.J. Carpenter of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Santiago was traveling at a very high rate of speed. Alcohol was not a factor, he said.
