The Salisbury Fire Department is inviting the public to a Disaster Preparedness Education Session from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 15, at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 323 S. Arlington St.
In case of bad weather, the event will be held at the Salisbury Fire Department, Station 1, 514 E. Innes St.
Portions of the session will be videotaped and included in the nationally syndicated episode of NASCAR Angels, a reality-based television show.
The segment will air later this year in both July and September with a third rebroadcast occurring in 2009. The disaster preparedness program is free, and first arrivals will receive a mini-backpack first aid kit.
Those attending also will be eligible for door prizes, including two disaster preparedness demonstration kits.
Salisbury Fire Chief Bob Parnell said it’s imperative for citizens to be prepared for emergencies and disaster situations.
“The Salisbury Fire Department is proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the NASCAR Angels organization to provide this educational outreach session,” Parnell said. “By sharing important tips and helpful information with our citizens, we can assist in readying home and car in the event of a disaster.”
