EAST SPENCER ó Two men riding motorcycles led authorities on a high speed chase on southbound Interstate 85 Friday after they were observed driving recklessly.
East Spencer Police Officer L. R. Melton stopped Russell James Lindsay, 27, of 416 N. Whitehead Ave., Spencer, at 7:20 p.m. He was later charged with misdemeanor reckless driving.
According to Melton’s sworn statement to Rowan Magistrate Fred Moore, Lindsay stopped his motorcycle, while the other suspect kept going.
David Andrew Myers, 24, of 245 B Blue Waters Drive, Salisbury, was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest.
The two men were traveling on Andrew Street and I-85 south while fleeing a law enforcement officer, the warrant said.
The officer was attempting to stop the men when they took off.
Lindsay complied with the officer. He received a written promise to appear in court. Myers received a $1,000 bond. He has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center. His first court appearance is Tuesday.
Melton told Moore he estimated the two men to be traveling with speeds in excess of 100 mph.
