The Salisbury Police Department charged a Cleveland teenager with attempted murder after connecting him to a home invasion earlier this month.
Jared Michael Jancic, 19, of 2365 Rary Road, faces charges of attempted murder, assault inflicting serous injury and breaking and entering.
Department reports said a woman who lived at a home on Lily Avenue heard a knock at the door April 4. She didn’t recognize the man, but opened the door anyway.
The man told her he lived across the street, the report said.
The man came into the house, pushed her to the floor and began choking the woman. She told police she passed out and when she came to, she saw him walking toward the door.
She went into her bedroom, retrieved a pistol and fired it. She did not strike the suspect. Nothing appeared to be taken from the home.
Jancic was arrested April 15.
Jancic was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under $100,000 bond. He has since been released.
Jancic’s next court appearance is May 14.
