As communities all over the world are preparing to celebrate the 38th anniversary of Earth Day, where on Earth will you be?
Downtown Salisbury Inc. invites you to the 3rd annual Lord Salisbury Celebrates SpringńEarth Day 2008, April 11 through April 22 in Historic Downtown Salisbury and other areas in and around the town.
Downtown Salisbury Inc. is delighted to host its 3rd annual Earth Night Out on Friday, April 18, 5 ń 10 p.m. in the heart of Historic Downtown Salisbury. The downtown will teem with music and entertainment all evening! The Brubakers, a local favorite, will present their characteristic brand of contemporary instrumental jazz beginning at 7 p.m. in front of 111 S. Main St. Other live entertainment will include Russ Wilson & the Mighty Mighty Men at the Blue Vine, Marte Maney & Friends at Okey Dokey & Co. General Store, the Polka Dots at the Rowan Arts Council Grand Opening, Nadira Dance Company at Spenzanelli’s and live entertainment (to be announced) at The Wrenn House.
Downtown shops will be open late and will offer special Earth-themed goodies, from Peace Punch and Groovy Grub to Green Snowballs and Mother Earth Milkshakes. Earth Night Out also offers a multitude of family and environmentally friendly activities to celebrate Earth Day while offering ideas to make every day Earth Day.
Butterfly Barbara will be wearing her gossamer wings and handing out milkweed seeds to cultivate habitat and food for the monarch butterfly. A coalition of child abuse prevention advocates will present the premier of their locally-produced video, “Healthy Parenting: Healthy Families for a Healthy Earth.”
Various environmental organizations will be set up around downtown to offer information on how you can easily care for the Earth.
There’s also fun to be had. Wacky Doo the Clown will be on hand to create his signature balloon hats, the ever-popular Classic Car Show will be in the Farmers Market lot, the Carolina Artists’ outdoor gallery will be open and ready for business, free trolley rides can take you from one activity to another and kids will find things to do all over downtown.

Earth Day 2008 at the Salisbury GreenwaySalisbury Greenway, near Overton Elementary School, Friday, April 11, 9 ń 11:30 a.m., hosted by the city of Salisbury.
Seven environmental classrooms will be established along the greenway to teach children about recycling, water quality and natural habitat.
