The rush of people wanting to register for the upcoming primary is expected to grow as the Friday deadline nears.
“We’re getting a lot of registration and a lot of people checking to make sure they are registered,” said Nancy Evans, county elections director.
Anyone who isn’t registered and wants to vote in the May 6 primary must do so by 5 p.m. Friday.
Residents may also register through the mail by picking up a form at the Elections Office or printing a form that’s available on the State Board of Elections web site at www.sboe.state.nc.us.
Mail in forms must be postmarked by April 11.
The deadline for address changes or changing party affiliation is also Friday.
The next big event in the upcoming primary season is the beginning of one-stop voting on April 17 and continue through May 3.
Evans said she hasn’t been contacted by organizers at Catawba College and Livingstone College who plan a mass march on April 24 for one-stop voting.
Evans said the Elections Office in the Administrative Offices Building has limited capacity. “We’ll try to accommodate them. We’ll do our best.”
Evans said the students may face a long line and a long wait if hundreds show up on April 24.
Here is a list of the sites, dates and times for one-stop voting.- Board of Elections Office — Monday-Friday, April 17- May 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; May 3, the only Saturday the office will open, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
– East Branch Library — Monday-Friday, April 21-May 2, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; May 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
– Tadlock South Branch Library, April 18-May 2, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; May 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
