Hunter ShuePFC Hunter Mark Shue of Gold Hill graduated from Army Basic Combat Training on Mar. 28, 2008, at Fort Jackson, S.C.
He is a 2005 graduate of East Rowan High School, where he completed four years of the Army ROTC.
While at Fort Jackson, he was attached to the Alpha Co. 1st Bat, 13th Inf. Reg. He has been awarded the Brigade Soldier of the Week, awarded for outstanding performance during training.
Shue is currently attending advanced individual training at Fort Eustis, Va., as a 15 Romeo (Apache repairer).
He is the son of Mark Shue and Eric and Linda Ellen, all of Gold Hill.
Michael SmithSeaman Michael C. Smith has graduated from basic military training at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, Ill. He completed a nine week program of study.
Smith is stationed in Norfolk, Va. on the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier.
He is a 2001 graduate of North Rowan High School. He attended UNC-Pembroke and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Smith is the son of Buddy and Pat Smith of Salisbury.
Mark PickettArmy National Guardsman Mark E. Pickett of Salisbury has been promoted to the rank of Major.
Pickett is presently assigned to the 449th Theater Aviation Brigade, RDU Airport in Morrisville where he is an AH-64D Longbow Apache pilot and brigade training officer. he has 16 years of military service.
He graduated from North Rowan High School in 1992 and North Carolina State University in 1997.
Pickett is the son of Thomas J. and Karen S. Pickett of Salisbury. He is married to Farrah G. Pickett.
Christopher Kirchner
Air Force Airman Christopher D. Kirchner has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, he studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Kirchner is the son of Jennifer Smith of Landis.
He is a 2003 high school graduate of Davidson County Community College, Lexington, N.C.
Christopher N. Powell
Army Reserve Pvt. Christopher N. Powell has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
He is the grandson of Mickey Ballard of China Grove.
Powell is a 2006 graduate of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis.
