Parent of the Year
Ellen Campbell of Richfield is the Salisbury-Rowan Head Start’s 2007-08 Parent of the Year.
Campbell represents Lash Head Start, where she has been a parent/guardian for more than five years and earned 320 volunteer hours in a variety of ways as of December.
She has attended workshops on nutrition, disabilities, transportation and breastfeeding. She is Lash’s parent chairperson, assists the staff and serves on the center’s policy council and the area advisory board.
She is also a member of the Head Start Association and will attend the annual N.C. Head Start conference in Winston-Salem April 23-35.
She competed against nine other parents to win this year’s title. They and the centers they represented are Deloris Henderson, West 22nd Street; Marquita Gillespie, East Spencer; Erika Delaney, Lash Early Head Start; Thomas Williams and Jean Thompson, Livingstone; Tacita Ellis, Price; Crystal Wilson, Westside; Dana Mullaly, Fleming; and Vida Pulliam, West Rowan.
