About 800 cars passed through a weekend checkpoint that was organized by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and included help from nearly a dozen other agencies.

The checkpoint was set up Friday night at the intersection of East Innes Street and Interstate 85.

Charges stemming from the checkpoint included 10 driving while impaired, 13 not having an operator’s license, four child safety restraint violations, two not wearing seatbelts, three open container violations, five felony and misdemeanor drug charges, seven people who had no updated inspection stickers  and 20 charges for other violations.

Officers also served 11 warrants on drivers.

The 41 participating officers and other personnel  came from  came from the following sheriff’s offices and other agencies: Burke County, Davie County, Iredell County, Rowan County, Salisbury Police, Rockwell Police, Cleveland Police, China Grove Police, Rowan County Rescue Squad, Rowan County 911 Communications, Rowan District Attorney’s Office and the local Mothers Against Drunk Driving Chapter.

Rowan Sheriff’s officials said everything went smoothly.
