N.C. Sen. Andrew Brock and Reps. Lorene Coates and Fred Steen visited Food Lion’s corporate offices Wednesday to discuss the company’s environmental initiatives and its community relations efforts.
Topics of conversation ranged from the impact the current economic climate is having on customers’ grocery cart contents to the ways in which Food Lion associates’ involvement in the United Way benefit Rowan County residents. Legislators also were interested in hearing more about Food Lion’s Guiding Stars program, which was designed by nutrition experts to help customers choose nutritious foods.
“We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of individuals represent Rowan County,” said Teross Young, Food Lion’s vice president of government relations. “The dialogue here today is a great example of what we can accomplish when corporations, government and community work together to grow and prosper.”
The North Carolina Retail Merchants Association jointly hosted the event with Food Lion. Others in attendance for the discussion included Food Lion’s CEO Rick Anicetti; Linn Evans, senior vice president of legal affairs; Dennis McCoy, government relations vice president of distribution; and Jennifer Gardner, government relations manager.
