For the first time in eight years, the Newcomers Club hosted a fashion show and card party last Wednesday at the Civic Center.
“We’ve been very successful in the past,” said organizer Carol Dehard. “Our main goal was to raise money for two charities.”
Those charities, Rowan Helping Ministries and the Family Crisis Council, each received a check for $1,000.
More than 160 guests ó including a few brave men ó attended the event. The club is open to anyone, Dehard said. “You can be an ‘oldcomer,’ too. We welcome anyone.”
After enjoying box lunches catered by Matt Trexler, the crowd oohed and ahhed over spring fashions by Coldwater Creek. Coral, aqua, yellow and turquoise are part of the spring palette, said Jackie Magni of Coldwater Creek at Northlake Mall.
“Brown is the biggest color in the store,” Magni said, with brown or black being paired with more vibrant colors.
Six club members ó Judy Deal, Mary James, Billie Simmons, Betty Towne, Pat Weber and Cathy Zalenski ó showed off a variety of casual fashions.
Highlights included Coldwater Creek’s new ShapeMe jeans in a variety of colors, TravAlure tops, skirts and pants, twinsets, cotton print jackets and accessories. Classic pearls are back, Magni reported.
Each model showed off three outfits, changing into flowing chiffon skirts in the last set.
