Staff report
If you looked outside your window after dinner Wednesday evening, you might’ve seen some snow.
Snowflakes fell in Rowan County for an hour or so, coating the ground, cars and any children who happened to be out.
The big flakes fell lightly and mixed with rain at first. Later, the snow took over for a little while and turned the evening a soft white.
Callers to the Post reported seeing the snow all over the area. Some said they’d seen sleet mixed in a little earlier.
According to the National Weather Service, the temperature was expected to dip into the upper 20s overnight Wednesday.
But don’t break out the sleds just yet. Today is expected to be clear and warmer.
“It will pretty much be full sun,” said Bryan McAvoy, a meteorologist with the Weather Service in Greeneville, S.C.
The high will be in the mid 50s, with temperatures expected to fall into the low 30s tonight. Friday could be even warmer, with temperatures expected to climb into the mid 60s.
“The next couple days are not really as interesting as Wednesday,” McAvoy said.
By the weekend, residents will see rain.
“There will be a rainstorm across the area,” he said.
On Saturday, forecasters predict a mostly cloudy day with an evening low around 34 and a 30 percent chance of rain. The chance of rain increases to 70 percent Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
