In coming months, Salisbury should have a new Biscuitville restaurant on the spot where Foster’s Prime Sirloin Family Restaurant once stood.
The old steak restaurant building, located in the Westland Shopping Center, has been removed and the site graded in recent weeks. It was originally a Western Steer.
The Salisbury Planning Board gave its OK Tuesday to a site plan for a 3,479-square-foot Biscuitville, which will include a drive-through window.
The restaurant will be located at 515 Jake Alexander Blvd. W.
Deborah Cook, real estate director for Biscuitville, said the Salisbury restaurant will be the company’s new prototype ó the fifth one built under the new design.
The biscuit restaurant’s hours will be from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Biscuitville is a 50-store, family-owned (not franchised) company based in Greensboro.
“We’ve been trying to get in Salisbury for quite awhile,” said Gene Mustin, a Greensboro engineer for Biscuitvilles in North Carolina. He indicated that it had been difficult for the company to find the right site.
Glenn Ketner, a Salisbury attorney representing the owners of Westland Shopping Center, successfully argued against a city staff suggestion that an 8-foot planting strip be added along Jake Alexander Boulevard from Biscuitville to the driveway entrance for the shopping center.
Ketner said the extra expense would be considerable because the distance would be roughly 110 feet. It also would affect traffic flow in the parking lot near Biscuitville, he said.
The Planning Board agreed. The 8-foot planting strip will only be required in front of the Biscuitville.
A 5-foot sidewalk also will be included along Jake Alexander Boulevard in front of the restaurant, and plans also call for a rear driveway connection from Biscuitville to Salisbury Village, which is under development next door.
