First Calvary Baptist Church has awarded $800 scholarships to four church members who attend colleges and universities.
They are Secily Medina Gamble, Moriah L. Jones, Patrick Doleman and Ellen Michelle Jackson.
The scholarship fund, established in 1985, is named for the late Joseph E. and Ellen H. Anderson, active church members and educators in Rowan-Salisbury Schools. Applicants must have successfully completed one semester of college and be active members of the church.
Gamble, daughter of Joseph and Vickie Gamble, is a 2007 graduate of West Rowan High School. She is a freshman majoring in nursing at Winston-Salem State University, where she is a member of the basketball/competition cheerleading squad. At First Calvary, she is a member of the Junior Choir and Black History Club and has helped with vacation Bible school.
Jones, daughter of Jeremiah Jones, graduated from North Rowan High School in 2003. She is a senior physical education major at Winston-Salem State University, where she is a member of the Physical Education Club and plays basketball.
Doleman, son of Albert and Clivetta Doleman, graduated from Salisbury High School in 2004. He is a senior business major at Methodist College, where he plays varsity football. At First Calvary, he is a member of the Usher Board, Sunday school and Young Adult Missionary Group.
Jackson, daughter of Frankie and Rochelle Jackson, is a junior majoring in biology/pre-medicine at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she is a member of Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society.
