Robert S. Misenheimer, mayor of Kannapolis, has been appointed to the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees by N.C. Gov. Mike Easley.
Misenheimer’s term will run through June 2008, completing the term of Edward Norvell of Salisbury, who resigned from the board in 2007.
Misenheimer has been mayor of Kannapolis since 2005 and was elected to five-consecutive terms on the Kannapolis City Council from 1989 to 2005.
He is a retired educator. From 1980 to 1993, he worked as a high school and middle school principal in the Cabarrus County School District. From 1957 to 1980, he served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in the Kannapolis School District.
He serves on multiple boards, including those of the N.C. Educational Assistance Authority and NorthEast Medical Center Foundation, and is a NorthEast Medical Center trustee. He has served on the SunTrust Bank board of advisors, the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corp. board, the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission and the North Carolina League of Municipalities transportation committee.
He has a bachelor’s degree from Catawba College, a master’s degree from Appalachian State University and advanced school administration certification from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has been married for 50 years to the former Bernie Hileman and has two children and three grandchildren.
