KANNAPOLIS ó A father and son face charges after a dispute with a neighbor over the weekend.
Michael Edward Newton Jr., 18, of 8040 Dogwood Drive, Kannapolis, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, going armed to the terror of the public and underage possession of alcohol.
His father, Michael Edward Newton, is charged with driving while impaired.Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call Sunday at 8725 Dogwood Drive, where they spoke with homeowner Johnny Ray Sartain.
Sartain had a gash to his forehead and told deputies he got it in a fight with the younger Newton, who he said was armed with a handgun, a Sheriff’s Department report said. Sartain told the deputies that, after the fight, the Newtons went to a BP convenience store off Unity Church Road.
Deputies found Newton and his father in a trailer behind the store, the report said. They were about to leave.
The deputy noticed Michael Newton Jr. was bloody and was holding his arm, which had been cut. He was treated and released from Rowan Regional Medical Center.
The Newtons have been released from the Rowan County Detention Center. Michael Newton Jr. posted a $5,000 bond and Michael Newton posted a $500 bond.
It was unclear what started the fight.
