Bond set at $2 million for suspect in shooting

Investigators with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office have charged a man with attempted murder in connection with the fatal shooting Sunday night of a Cleveland resident.
Authorities charged Brandon Zachary Joyner, 25, of Reidsville with attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy, attempted first-degree burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon and failure to appear on a probation violation.
He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under $2 million bond Friday.
Another address given for Joyner was 925 N.C. Highway 801, Woodleaf.
An exchange of shots Sunday night at 16565 Dooley Road, Cleveland, ended in the death of Jamel O. Holland, 21, of 129 Bryson Lane, Cleveland, and the wounding of Travis O. Houpe, 31, of the Dooley Road address. Houpe suffered wounds to a leg and wrist.
Joyner is charged with attempting to rob and kill Houpe and conspiring with Holland to break into Houpe’s residence and steal $3,000.
Joyner’s first appearance in court will be Monday morning.
Several other people have been charged in connection with Sunday’s incident.
Dennis Ervin Ramseur, 53, of Riverhill Road, Statesville, was charged Thursday with felony conspiracy, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and attempted first-degree burglary.
During the investigation, officers also cited two women at the Dooley Road residence on drug charges.
They were Linda L. Houpe, 52, and Michelle Marlow Montaigne, 33. Linda Houpe faces charges of possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana and cocaine, trafficking cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the sale and delivery of a controlled substance.
Montaigne is charged with trafficking cocaine and possession with the intent to sell and distribute cocaine.
