Staff report
The county planning board will hear an unusual request Monday night ó a church wants its property zoned commercial.
Cornerstone Church, at 315 Webb Road, wants to operate a pickup/delivery pizza business in a portion of the church’s new events center.
A pizza delivery operation isn’t permitted in the current rural residential zoning.
The Rev. Bill Godair, Cornerstone’s pastor, is asking the county to rezone the entire 8.9-acre parcel to commercial, business, industrial. The parcel includes the church, the child development center and the new 16,000-square-foot events center.
In the application, church officials point out that the business will be taxable.
The Rowan County Planning Board will conduct a public hearing and make a recommendation to the county Board of Commissioners.
The county planning staff recommends approval.
In other matters, the board will:
– Conduct a public hearing on a request to rezone 8 acres in the 4300 block of Long Ferry Road owned by William Webb from rural agricultural to commercial, business, industrial. Webb plans four metal storage buildings with a total of 48,000 square feet.
– Conduct a hearing on several changes in the county’s subdivision and zoning ordinance that will eliminate discrepancies.
– Hear a committee report on development of a sex offender ordinance that would ban registered offenders from parks. The committee, headed by Mac Butner, has been reviewing ordinances from other counties and cities.
The Planning Board meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Meeting Room, 130 W. Innes St.
