Iredell sheriff reports several drug arrests
STATESVILLE ó A Statesville man was charged Wednesday following a traffic stop with possession of marijuana/possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a press release from Sheriff Phil Redmond of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Ryan Lenzy Brooks, of 159 Hunterpond Lane, Statesville, was charged.
Deputy C.L. Stone stopped a 1997 Dodge Stratus on Beulah Road for not having insurance.
While speaking with the driver, Stone noticed he would not make eye contact and had little to say. K-9 Sgt. T. Byrd arrived and began to question the passenger, Brooks. He found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Brook’s backpack.
Stone searched the vehicle, but nothing was found. Brooks admitted to having more marijuana and drug paraphernalia at his home, and the deputies followed him and seized a bag of marijuana and other paraphernalia.
The driver of the vehicle was not the registered owner, and was not charged with any violation.
Also on Wednesday, deputies charged Marc Anthony Cosby, 24, 100 Camellia Lane, Apt. 1122, Lithonia, Ga., and Oliver Louis Simon III, 23, 3974 Annistown Road, Snellville, Ga.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team stopped a Chevrolet Monte Carlo for a traffic infraction on I-77 south near mile marker 58.
During the stop, deputies detected the odor of marijuana. A search found 172 80-mg. tablets of Oxycontin inside the center console of the vehicle. After further searching of the vehicle, deputies found $9,920 in the vehicle.
Cosby and Simon were charged with trafficking by transportation and possession. The street value of the pills found was $17,200. The men were placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under $50,000 secured bonds each.
