The Salisbury Police Department is looking for a man who robbed FirstBank and left headed toward Interstate 85 in an older red pickup.
Shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, a man walked in the front door of the 1525 S. Jake Alexander Blvd. branch.
“No weapon was displayed,” Salisbury Police Chief Deputy Steve Whitley said.
The man was short and to the point when he asked the clerks for money, Whitley added.
The clerks complied. The man took the money and left.
Witnesses described the robber as a black man, about 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black hoodie, a toboggan and blue jeans. A portion of his face was visible but no complete description was available.
Witnesses said the suspect left in a full-sized, older model red pickup with muddy tires or rims. As he left the bank parking lot, other customers drove onto the lot. Investigators ask anyone who saw the truck to contact law enforcement.
The suspect blew his horn and made a lot noise while leaving.
“He was seen screaming and ranting,” Whitley said.
The FirstBank branch has been robbed before, in September 2001 and May 2002. In March 2006, two women attempted to rob the bank, but got scared and left. In February 2006, a man who robbed a Kannapolis bank cased FirstBank with the intent to rob it also, authorities said.
The N.C. Bankers Association offers a reward of up to $5,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and indictment of a bank robber. The public can provide confidential information by calling 800-209-2293.
Salisbury Police ask anyone with information that would assist the investigation to call 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 866-639-5245.
