Christmas came early for officials at Rowan Regional Medical Center, in the form of a Dec. 23 letter from the Joint Commission, the national accrediting body for health-care organizations.
The medical center received full accreditation for all services, based on a review conducted earlier in October.
The accreditation cycle was effective Oct. 11 and is good up to 39 months until the next announced survey. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 5,000 hospitals and 15,000 health-care organizations and programs in the United States. The accreditation is recognized nationally as the “Gold Seal” of approval in health care.
John Pruitt, Rowan Regional Medical Center chief operating officer, praised the results.
“This recertification is the result of teamwork, outstanding clinical care, improved patient outcomes and the dedication and skills from our physicians and staff,” Pruitt said.
“This accreditation validates that we are committed to meeting rigorous national standards for health care and are focused on quality health care for all our patients.”
In the accreditation report, which is available online at www.jointcommission.org, Rowan Regional Medical Center’s performance scored above the performance of most accredited organizations in heart failure care, pneumonia care, surgical care infection prevention and hip/joint replacement.
The accreditation process is a comprehensive review of the organization’s performance in more than 250 standards of care, including patient safety, the management and environment of care, provision of care, treatment and services, medication management, surveillance, prevention and control of infection and improving organization performance.
Rowan Regional Medical Center, an affiliate of Novant Health, is a private, not-for-profit acute care hospital based in Salisbury with more than 160 active physicians representing more than 35 medical specialties.
