Thirty rookie firefighters from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College took part in a “live burn” exercise in Granite Quarry, fighting a real fire in a controlled situation.
The firefighters began training Sept. 3 and will graduate Dec. 17.
During the live burn exercise, the rookie firefighters were assisted by the Granite Quarry Fire Department with instructors from the Granite Quarry, Salisbury and Charlotte fire departments.
The Rowan County Rescue Squad was on standby during the exercise and refilled air bottles.
