CONCORD ó Following a tip Wednesday, police recovered a school bus that had been stolen from an elementary school Tuesday night.
After getting a call through Crimestoppers around 6 p.m., Concord Police Department officers found the bus sitting on a dirt road between McGill and Cabarrus avenues, the location of the former Cannon Mills Plant 6 property. The bus had been abandoned and had minor damages, police said.
Once police processed evidence, they turned the bus over to a Cabarrus County Schools representative.
A driver parked the bus at Coltrane Webb Elementary School on Spring Street after completing a route Tuesday afternoon. Someone entered the bus overnight and removed it from the school property. One other bus had been vandalized, with someone spraying a fire extinguisher over its interior.
The investigation continues as officers search for more clues that will lead to possible arrests. Anyone with information is asked to call Concord Police at 704-920-5000 or Cabarrus Area Crimestoppers 704-93CRIME.
