Horizons Unlimited celebrates 50 years of NASA

Horizons Unlimited will sponsor a special community event Saturday from 4-6 p.m. The planetarium show, “50 Years of NASA” will be presented in the Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium from 5-6 p.m. The show will feature the original Mercury flights through Gemini and Apollo.
Historical news articles, periodicals and books and other artifacts will be on display. Visitors may choose from a wide variety of activities: Shuttle art, cosmic trivia, evolution of the NASA space suit, lunar photo booth, toys in space, NASA’s seeds in space, extraterrestrial story telling, view the Lunar Lander and tip the planetary scales.
The following exhibits will also be open: Tropical Rainforest/Aviary, Freshwater Aquaria, Bodies in Motion, Native American Indian and Rowan County history displays.
The Tom E. Smith Exploratorium will be open for hiking. This series of trails and boardwalks will guide participants into a wetland forest rarely found in the inner Piedmont region of North Carolina.
This 34-acre study area is recognized in the North Carolina Registry of Natural Heritage Areas for outstanding natural values.
