Education: North Rowan band wins 12 awards

The North Rowan High School Marching Band completed the marching season by winning 12 awards at its final two competitions.
The Marching Cavaliers received first place in colorguard, music and marching, second place in drum line, general effect and band and received a top rating of superior in Class 3A at the Festival of Bands Marching Band Contest at North Davidson High School.
The band won five awards at the Foard High School Band Classic Marching Contest: first place in percussion and second place in colorguard, general effect and band and an excellent rating.
For the season, the band won 11 first-place, nine second-place and two third-place awards, two excellent and two superior ratings.
Also, senior band members have won nearly 120 awards during their four years. The band is directed by Keith and Andrew Howe.
Enochville citizens
Enochville Elementary School recently recognized the following students as October Wise Owls for consistently exhibiting good citizenship, good manners and exceptional behavior:

National FFA award
Catawba College first-year student Lori Beth Fraley of Cleveland was named a national winner during the National FFA Conventionin Indianapolis, Ind., in October.
Fraley was recognized as the national winner of the Agricultural Sales ń Placement Proficiency Award for her work while a member of the West Rowan High School’s FFA Chapter. Fraley’s FFA advisors at West Rowan were Jason Chester and Clark Adams.
Proficiency awards “recognize outstanding student achievement in agribusiness gained through establishment of a new business, working for an existing company or otherwise gaining hands-on career experience.”
Fraley works with parents Cindy and Von Fraley in the hydraulic distribution company they own and operate, using her customer service and communication skills to help the business succeed.

FBLA conference
Six members of the South Rowan High School Future Business Leaders of America attended the district fall conference last month at Stanly Community College in Albemarle.
Delegates Blake Litaker, Kristina Trexler, Jabin Wilson, Kevin Randall, Matt Bare and Melquan Thomas attended workshops at the event.
The club also inducted officers in October: Blake Litaker, president; Kristina Trexler, vice president; and Kevin Randall, parliamentarian. Dale Beaver was the speaker for the event.
