Kannapolis changes loose leaf, yard waste collection system
KANNAPOLIS ó Loose leaf collection will begin Oct. 20 in Kannapolis with a new system that increases loose leaf and bagged yard waste collection pick-ups to every other week.
The new system will break the city into 10 zones, allowing more efficient and improved leaf collection and yard waste service.
To determine which zone they reside in, citizens can visit the city Web site to view a map or call the Public Works Department at 704-920-4200.
Public Works staff will also deliver postcards to each address in Kannapolis identifying for residents which zone their property falls within.
“We are excited to be able to increase our level of service for loose leaf and yard waste collection,” said Kannapolis Public Works Director Wilmer Melton. “While we understand it may cause a bit of confusion at the initial implementation, we think that overall our customers will be happy with better service.”
Leaves must be placed at the curb or along the ditch line, not in ditches, in rows parallel with street by 7 a.m., on the day of collection to ensure collection on the scheduled day.
Leaves mixed with limbs, other yard waste, gravel, glass or other solid matter will not be collected. Leaves in garbage containers will not be collected. Leaves must be clear of water meters and fences and placed on the street side of retaining walls. Leaves should also be clear of sidewalks and the street.
