Salisbury's loose leaf collection starts Monday

The city of Salisbury’s loose leaf collection service for residents will kick off Monday.
During the weeks of Oct. 13, 20 and 27, collection will occur in all areas, including South Main to West Innes streets, North Main to West Innes streets, and all streets located east of Main Street.
Public Works Director Tony Cinquemani asks that citizens rake their loose leaves to the curb by 7 a.m. Monday to ensure collection for that week.
Residents are being asked to keep rocks, limbs and other wastes out of the curbside leaf piles. Any matter other than leaves can cause damage to the leaf machines and delay or prevent leaf collection.
The leaf vacuum requires clear access to the leaves. Parked vehicles and overhead obstructions will result in the inability to collect.
Cinquemani said the leaf vacuum produces fine debris which may settle on nearby vehicles. City staff members are unable to clean vehicles on which leaf debris has settled.
In addition, the city of Salisbury’s Public Services Department, in conjunction with the Community Appearance Commission, will sponsor the annual Fall Spruce-Up Week Monday-Friday.
The fall cleanup event offers the collection of residential appliances, tires without rims and extra bagged trash. Citizens are encouraged to place all items curbside before 7 a.m. on their regular garbage collection day.
No building materials such as carpet, padding, sheet rock, windows, lumber, commodes or sinks will be collected. The Fall Spruce-Up Week service is available to residents living inside the city limits of Salisbury only and does not include collections from business locations.
Salisbury’s scheduled loose leaf collection service will take place from October to March 2009.
