The speed limit throughout the Westwood subdivision has been lowered to 25 mph.
Salisbury City Council approved the change last week after receiving a petition signed by approximately 59 percent of the Westwood property owners asking the city to lower the speed limit from 35 to 25 mph.
Councilman William “Pete” Kennedy said he hopes the 40 percent who didn’t sign the petition realize the speed limit is now lower.
City Traffic Engineer Wendy Brindle said the staff recommended the change, and she noted there is no through traffic in the subdivision.
The subdivision streets include Celtic and Patriot circles and Chesapeake, Freedom, Imperial, Independence, Oakhurst, Statesman and Titan drives.
The neighborhood is located off Harrison Road. Brindle said Westwood residents also have petitioned for street lighting.
