Kannapolis police investigators said this morning they’ve added two more serious charges against a Kannapolis man accused of sexual misconduct with a 12-year-old girl.
Police officials announced Thursday that they had charged David Avila Garcia, 22, of 704 Baron Ridge Road, with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor.
He was arrested Wednesday morning after police investigators first learned of the allegations Tuesday night. He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under $100,000 bond.
“As a result of the continuing investigation, two additional warrants charging Mr. Garcia with two counts of first-degree rape have been obtained,” the Police Department said in a press release this morning. “These warrants have been turned over to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office for service. The victim in all charges is the same. No additional charges are expected.”
Detective Cheryl H. Hearne was the lead investigator on the case.
