The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office would like to talk to a man who stopped at 255 Susan Lane Saturday evening and started a conversation with three children playing alongside the road.
The incident was reported to the Rowan 911 Center at 6:12 p.m. as an attempted kidnapping of a 6-year-old girl. An investigation by Lt. R. St. Clair, however, determined that the man did not make any physical contact with any of the children.
St. Clair said the man offered to give the children a puppy he had in a cage in the bed of his newer-model dark green pickup, described by witnesses as a Chevy S10 or a GMC Sonoma with a silver tool box on the back. “I don’t think they ever saw the dog,” he said. “He never took it out of the cage.”
An adult who spotted the man told St. Clair the man got in his truck and drove off when he saw the person headed toward him. The truck headed in the direction of East Ridge Road.
“There’s going to be a report taken,” St. Clair said, “but not as a kidnapping. It’s going to be more for informational purposes at this time. We would like to try and find the person to talk to him.”
