County commissioners plan to meet briefly with U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole Monday at the Rowan County Airport.
Dole is scheduled to tour the airport at 1:30 p.m.
A majority of the board of commissioners is expected to attend.
Commissioners have said they hope to enlist the help of Dole and U.S. Reps. Howard Coble and Mel Watt in getting funds to expand the airport by adding 1,000 feet to the runway.
Major airport projects including runway extensions are typically paid for through federal and state grants.
