Nazareth Children’s Home has been reaccredited by the Council on Accreditation. The process began in November 2008 and Nazareth received notification Dec. 1.
“Earning reaccreditation is a testament to Nazareth’s determination and commitment to perform at high levels in both agency operations and service delivery areas,” Vernon L. Walters, Jr., president and CEO of Nazareth Children’s Home, said in a press release. “The accreditation process is rigorous and it is only worthwhile when the agency being accredited is willing to go the distance and use the experience to make lasting gains.
“The agency’s staff, by participating in the process, has stated very clearly their desire for Nazareth Children’s Home to be widely known as a premier provider,” Walters said.
During the process, Nazareth’s accreditation team worked to ensure the home met Council on Accreditation standards. The effort by the staff, team and trustees required many hours of assessment, policy and procedure development, system and process development and data collection and analysts. Those involved in the accreditation process also performed their regular duties, the press release said.
Council accreditation is an objective and reliable verification that provides confidence and support to an organization’s service recipients, board members, staff and community partners, the press release said. The process involves a detailed review and analysis of an organization’s administrative operations and its service delivery practices, which are measured against national standards of best practice. These standards emphasize services that are accessible, appropriate, culturally responsive, evidence-based and outcome-oriented.
In addition, the press release said, accreditation confirms that services are provided by skilled and supported workforce and that individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
Walters said in the press release he is “extremely pleased with the success Nazareth has experienced over the past 10 years in providing services to children and families Rowan County.”

It was founded in 1977 by the Child Welfare League of America and Family Service America (now known as the Alliance for Children and Families).
