An accident involving several cars on I-85 near the Cabarrus County line has snarled traffic.
According to reports heard on the law enforcement scanner, several people were trapped in the cars and had to be removed by emergency personnel.
The extent and number of injuries is not known at this time.
Cabarrus County emergency personnel remain on the site. The scanner traffic indicated the accident is near the 63 mile marker, near Lane Street.
Traffic is backed up about 5 miles in the southbound lanes; one lane is closed.
